About the role

As our Principal Communications Advisor, you’ll play a critical role in protecting and promoting one of Queensland’s most trusted brands. Working within our Corporate Communications team, you’ll lead strategic, proactive and reactive external communications that strengthen RACQ’s reputation, support our members and communities, and champion the issues that matter most to Queenslanders. From major campaigns and advocacy to issues management and media engagement, this is a senior, high-impact role where your expertise, judgement and voice will be trusted and valued. This role suits a confident communications professional who thrives on influence, relationships and purpose-driven storytelling. You will:
Lead the development and delivery of multi-channel communications campaigns that support RACQ’s business priorities and advocacy pillars Promote, protect and defend the RACQ brand through strong media, issues and stakeholder management Build and maintain trusted relationships with media, spokespeople and internal stakeholders Provide strategic advice to senior leaders on reputational risk, opportunities and emerging issues Support crisis and issues communications, including contributing to RACQ’s crisis communications framework Create high-quality content across earned and owned channels including media releases, socials content and member articles Engage with members and the public through RACQ’s social media and earned media channels Mentor and support internal spokespeople through media advice and training Collaborate across the Corporate Communications team to ensure consistent, values-led messaging About you
You’re an experienced, purpose driven professional with: 5–7 years’ experience in media, public relations or corporate communications roles A tertiary qualification in Media, Communications, Public Relations, Political Science or a related discipline Experience working within large, complex or purpose-driven organisations (highly regarded) Government relations, advocacy or regulatory experience (desirable) Demonstrated experience managing complex reputational issues and advising senior leaders Strong media relations expertise with proven ability to influence coverage and public narrative Excellent writing skills across media releases, opinion pieces, speeches, reports and digital content Sound judgement and confidence in decision-making under pressure Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capability Ability to think strategically while delivering high-quality tactical outcomes Why join RACQ?
