Introduction Are you passionate about Industrial Automation, Robotics, and Mechatronics Engineering ? We are seeking a dynamic and industry-engaged On-Campus Lecturer (OCL) – Industrial Automation / Robotics / Mechatronics Engineering to deliver high-quality teaching and academic leadership across our undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programs. About the Role As an On-Campus Lecturer, you will play a key academic role in the delivery, coordination, and continuous improvement of units within our Industrial Automation and related engineering programs. This is a multi-disciplinary position requiring strong technical expertise, a commitment to student success, and the ability to facilitate engaging, practice-oriented learning experiences. You will be physically present for all scheduled classes and contact hours and will lead on-campus teaching activities, including lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, and practical workshops. This is a 12-month fixed-term role. Description Key Responsibilities Teaching & Unit Coordination Provide academic leadership in the delivery of one or more units of study within Industrial Automation Engineering. Manage and coordinate assigned units, ensuring academic quality, compliance, and continuous improvement. Deliver high-quality lectures, tutorials, laboratory classes, and practical workshops on campus. Develop and update teaching materials in areas such as: PLC programming and industrial control systems SCADA and HMI systems Instrumentation and process control Industrial communication networks (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP) Robotics and automation systems Mechatronics and control systems engineering Ensure laboratory activities reflect current industry practices and safety standards. Monitor and support student progress, providing timely academic guidance and feedback. Supervise postgraduate students and applied research projects. Assist in the selection and mentoring of sessional academic staff. Participate in online lecturing and course material review where required. Research & Scholarly Activity Conduct and publish high-quality research in Industrial Automation, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or related disciplines. Contribute to research grant applications and industry-funded projects. Engage in scholarly activities that enhance teaching practice and industry relevance. Academic Leadership & Administration Contribute to the development and enhancement of Industrial Automation/Mechatronics/Robotics programs. Support curriculum innovation to ensure alignment with Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, and digital transformation trends. Participate in accreditation and quality assurance processes (e.g., Engineers Australia). Undertake academic administrative duties associated with unit coordination and faculty operations. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and industry-engaged learning environment. Essential Qualifications & Experience PhD in Industrial Automation, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience teaching and/or supervising at Master’s level within a higher education institution, and relevant professional experience; OR Master’s degree in Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline with at least five (5) years of significant industry experience in automation or control systems engineering. Desirable: Teaching qualification in Tertiary Education. Chartered Engineer status or progress toward chartership (e.g., Engineers Australia). Substantial hands-on industry experience in industrial automation, PLC/SCADA systems, process control, robotics, or manufacturing automation. Experience in developing laboratory-based teaching activities aligned with real-world automation systems. Demonstrated experience in the conceptualisation, development, and completion of high-quality academic or applied research projects. Key Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability and/or strong potential to undertake high-quality, publishable academic or applied research in Industrial Automation or related disciplines. Proven record of excellence in teaching and scholarship of teaching in engineering. Demonstrated ability to integrate industry-based automation technologies into teaching practice. Experience in curriculum development and innovative teaching methodologies in automation, control, or mechatronics disciplines. Ability to contribute to and progress research grants and industry collaboration projects. Strong academic leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster a cooperative and industry-relevant learning environment. Demonstrated expert knowledge of industrial automation systems, control theory, instrumentation, and relevant standards. High-level computer literacy, including proficiency in Learning Management Systems (e.g., Moodle), PLC programming environments (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), SCADA platforms, simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink), and standard office software. Knowledge of and commitment to Equal Opportunity principles and inclusive practices.
