About the role We have an exciting permanent full-time or permanent part-time opportunity, for a TAFE Counsellor to join our team at Eora TAFE Campus in Redfern. This Aboriginal Identified position plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students in achieving their educational, personal and career goals within a culturally safe environment, and additionally provides support to other student cohorts as part of the broader service offering. This role delivers social and emotional wellbeing support and is referred to internally as Counsellor. The role delivers individual and group counselling, education and career guidance and wellbeing support that recognises the ongoing impacts of intergenerational trauma, systemic barriers and cultural responsibilities. Working closely with teaching teams, student support services and local community organisations, the role contributes to holistic, student‑centred support that improve retention, engagement and successful course completion. A strong focus is placed on advocacy, referral pathways and community collaboration to ensure students are connected to the right support at the right time. You are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with strong connections to mob, community and culture, and you bring this knowledge respectfully into your work every day. You are trusted by community, grounded in cultural ways of knowing, being and doing, and able to build strong relationships with Aboriginal students through empathy, active listening and cultural safety. You have experience supporting people through complex personal, social and emotional challenges and understand how these can impact learning, participation and wellbeing. Confident working both independently and collaboratively, you communicate effectively with students, colleagues and community partners, and you’re comfortable navigating sensitive situations with professionalism and care. Your work is guided by integrity, accountability and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander learners. To succeed in this role, you will have: Aboriginality (Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act of 197
*. Candidates selected for an interview must provide Confirmation of Aboriginality documentation at or before interview.
* A valid Working with Children Check (required prior to commencement).
* Appropriate degree from a tertiary institution with at least three years study in psychology, or other such study at the Employer deems appropriate, plus two years appropriate vocational experience.
* Two years relevant recent counselling experience in personal counselling and educational OR vocational counselling.
* Willingness and ability to travel as per business requirements.
