Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital is an acute hospital that supports a population of approximately 80,000 and is the only ANZAC Memorial hospital remaining in NSW. Easily accessible to Sydney residents, our team of clinicians, allied health, and support staff works with the community on a shared goal to maintain the delivery of high-quality healthcare in the Blue Mountains region. The successful incumbent will use their lived experience of mental health in a purposeful way that provides hope and practical strategies that support recovery for consumers engaged with the Blue Mountains Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT). The Blue Mountains ACTT provides a range of clinical and psychosocial interventions for consumers with severe and persistent mental illness and complex needs who require an enhanced level of support to sustain community living. This role will support consumers across four main areas developing good physical and mental health, access to housing, employment and education, re-discovering a sense of purpose and personal identity and forming active connections to the community of the consumers' choice. Peer Support Workers work with individuals and groups, are always person-led, and provide support contingent on peer choice and will work within the model of care for the team they work in. What you will bring to the role Personal experience as a consumer of mental health services and ability to utilise the lived experience to support others in their own mental health recovery journey. Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, or qualifications in health or other relevant qualification, e.g. degree, diploma or certificate, or readiness to work towards. Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel. Understanding of and commitment to recovery-oriented services and consumer involvement in service design, implementation and evaluation Ability to work effectively across community and inpatient settings. Experience in working collaboratively with individuals and groups including the multidisciplinary team; and ability to build and maintain effective relationships with external providers, consumers and carers. Demonstrated effective negotiation, time management, and written and verbal communication skills. Excellent computing skills, ability to use Microsoft applications in an office setting. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to plan, implement and evaluate group and individual peer led interventions Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.
