About the Conduct and Investigations Office

The Conduct and Investigations Office is dedicated to fostering a culture of ethical behaviour, respect, and accountability across the University. The Office plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing conduct and integrity frameworks that support a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for students, staff, and stakeholders.

About the Opportunity

As Director, Conduct and Investigations Office, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the University’s conduct and integrity agenda. You will lead the institution’s response to misconduct, including academic integrity breaches, staff and student behavioural issues, discrimination, harassment, and fraud. This role is central to embedding ethical behaviour and integrity into the University’s culture, ensuring compliance with legislation, codes, and sector standards, and promoting awareness and education around ethical conduct.

This is a full-time, 5-year fixed term position based at Western’s Hawkesbury Campus, although travel to other campuses may be required. Please review the position description for further information.

Key Responsibilities

The Director will be responsible for:

- Provide strategic leadership in developing and implementing institution-wide conduct, ethics, and integrity frameworks.
- Advise senior leadership on emerging risks and systemic issues related to conduct and integrity.
- Oversee governance and compliance with relevant legislation, codes of conduct, and academic integrity policies.
- Lead and manage investigations into misconduct, ensuring fair, confidential, and compliant processes.
- Design and deliver education and awareness programs on ethical conduct, academic integrity, and respectful behaviour.
- Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support conduct-related matters.
- Prepare reports, analyse trends, and drive continuous improvement in conduct and integrity processes.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking a dynamic individual with:

- Extensive experience in ethics, integrity, compliance, or legal roles within the education sector or similar.
- Strong understanding of academic integrity, student conduct, and staff behaviour frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex investigations and manage sensitive matters.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in law, education, governance, or related fields.
- Demonstrated time management skills, including the ability to prioritise, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess options and implement solutions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and harmoniously in a team environment.
- Capacity to flexibly manage competing priorities and stressful situations, monitoring own stress levels and promoting self-care strategies.
- Experience working with statutory complaints bodies (e.g., Ombudsman, Australian Human Rights Commission, NSW Anti-Discrimination Board) and familiarity with higher education sector standards.

Remuneration Package: A competitive senior salary and benefits package including 17% Superannuation and Long Service Leave.
