The key duties of the position include:
What you will do as the Principal Economist
- Provide expert qualified economic support (economic advice, carry out both qualitative and quantitative analysis, guidance and research) to the agency through merger reviews, competition and consumer investigations, competition exemption applications, digital platform matters, market studies and issues relating to the regulation of services.
- Prepare written papers, reports, presentations, speeches and submissions on economic issues for presentation within the ACCC, to the Commission and external parties.
- Liaise with staff, Commissioners and external advisers on economic issues and projects as required.
- Work collaboratively with teams to employ economic frameworks to assist in investigations and enforcement of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and other relevant legislation.
Eligibility
About you
In order to succeed in the role, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience and/or expertise in competition economics or the ability to demonstrate understanding and application of the economic frameworks relevant to competition economics.
- Sound knowledge of the ACCC’s role in administering the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and the economic principles relevant to this.
- The ability to achieve strong results while working effectively in a team environment.
- An honours degree in Economics or equivalent experience in industrial organisation, applied microeconomics, econometrics or similar fields.

Getting to know the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
The ACCC is an independent statutory authority that administers the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and other Acts. The ACCC works to promote effective competition and fair trading in the market place to benefit consumers, business and the community, and efficiency in the delivery of certain infrastructure services.
