Job Title: Senior Payroll Tax Compliance Specialist
This role is part of the Payroll Operations team, ensuring payroll tax rates are accurate and up-to-date in Workday. It also involves timely completion of payroll tax filings.
Key Responsibilities:
* Review Workday Payroll Tax setup for each legal entity and jurisdiction; identify issues and partner with Alight Tax Filing Services and HRIT to update and correct.
* Perform a review of the monthly/quarterly tax filing package; ensure accuracy and timeliness.
* Work with Payroll Accounting to ensure alignment and reconciliation with G/L.
* Manage and reconcile payroll taxes at the employer and employee level; ensure timely remittances to the tax authorities and accurate reporting of withholding taxes.
* Reconcile QTD and YTD tax amounts withheld, reported, and deposited on a quarterly and annual basis for assigned entities.
* Manage SUI rate updates; ensure updates are in Workday.
* Complete and submit applications for new tax jurisdictions and closing jurisdictions.
* Research and resolve payroll tax notices for multi-state tax entities; escalate issues as needed and maintain a strong delivery record.
* Support internal and external audit data requests; prepare materials for tax provisions at year-end and for tax audits.
* Partner with Payroll Accounting to research any open G/L items; identify new risk areas and ensure full compliance.
* Communicate effectively with stakeholders; work independently and collaboratively; communicate the benefits of tax initiatives.
* Oversee payroll payments and account reconciliations; coordinate with Payroll Manager to ensure timely payroll processing in compliance with laws and regulations.
* Supervise payroll preparation and production, including regular, special, and supplemental payrolls; enforce standards and correct issues as needed.
* Coordinate payroll operations with other accounting and data processing units; participate in developing, implementing, and testing procedures.
* Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions (salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions).
* Regularly audit the system to ensure data integrity and resolve discrepancies affecting tax returns.
* Define key metrics and create metric reports and reporting processes.
* Collaborate with colleagues to increase productivity and drive process improvements to reduce manual effort.
* Identify and pursue system improvements as new business requirements arise and address potential noncompliance.
Requirements:
* A University degree is preferred.
* At least 3 years of experience is required; 5+ years of experience is preferred.
* Mandatory experience in payroll tax compliance in Workday.
* Proficiency in Excel is required.
* Experience in financial services is a plus.
