Master of Education students - teach senior secondary classes on campus while you finalise your MTeach. Teacher registration/LAT not required.
About The Role
You will be teaching within the Foundation Studies Program – a program designed for international students who have relocated to Australia and are looking to complete their secondary education prior to joining UTAS for their tertiary education.
These students are invested in their studies, polite, and motivated. Coming from a broad range of nationalities, they will require varying levels of support to develop their English literacy and study skills.
The units are equivalent to senior secondary subjects taught in the Australian curriculum, with adjustments to promote language and study skills development.
You could choose to teach one or more of the following units:
Foundation Mathematics: general maths unit designed for students intending to study a variety of STEM and non-STEM courses at university. Topics include algebra, linear and nonlinear functions, and geometry.
Statistics: an introduction to the collection, analysis, and graphical display of data. Linear regression, correlation, and causation are introduced. Probability functions are lightly covered.
Chemistry: covers atoms, molecules, molecular geometry, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, equilibrium, acids and bases, and redox reactions; brief introduction to the naming convention for simple, unsubstituted hydrocarbons; laboratories are conducted with the assistance of laboratory technicians.
Physics: covers forces, laws of motion, kinematics, work, energy and power, wave systems, light, and electricity. A number of in-class demonstrations have been developed, and you are welcome to propose further hands-on activities to bring this subject to life.
