About the Role

Monash Health is seeking an experienced medical leader to support the Head of Unit in the operational management of the Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine. This role will oversee daily operations, staff rostering, clinical and operational performance, and contribute to senior medical staff recruitment, orientation, and performance reviews.

The Deputy Head of Unit, Operations is a senior member of the medical team, providing leadership, coordination, and management of departmental staff while supporting interdisciplinary clinical practice, education, and service excellence across Monash Health sites, including Monash Medical Centre, Moorabbin Hospital, and Kingston Centre.

Key Responsibilities:

* Coordinate staff rostering and daily departmental operations
* Support senior medical staff recruitment, orientation, and job planning
* Organise departmental meetings and disseminate minutes
* Drive departmental development and change management initiatives
* Collaborate with Directors and Nurse Unit Managers to optimise theatre and resource utilisation
* Represent the department in organisational meetings and act as delegate for the Service Medical Director as required
* Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and financial management standards

Role Scope

* Full-time, 38 hours per week plus rostered on-call
* Approximately 66% clinical and 34% non-clinical
* 5 fixed term tenure with review and extension upon mutual agreement at the end of each term.

Qualifications & Experience:

* Medical qualification with registration with the Medical Board of Australia and current practicing certificate
* Fellowship of the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or equivalent recognition
* Experience or qualification in medical leadership/management
* Demonstrated clinical expertise, commitment to quality and safety, and leadership in medical education and research
* Strong teamwork, communication, and advocacy skills
