Permanent, Full-time | Newcastle, NSW
Make a lasting impact in this newly created role, to address and help prevent domestic and family abuse. This opportunity is deeply involved in the design and delivery of policy, procedure, education and engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

Newcastle Anglican is seeking a dedicated and experienced Domestic & Family Abuse Education Officer (DFAO) to lead our commitment to the prevention of, and response to, domestic and family abuse (DFA). This pivotal role drives the implementation of the Ten Commitments for Preventing and Responding to Domestic and Family Violence, adopted by Synod in 2022, and helps build a safer, more respectful culture across our communities.

Reporting to Director of Mission the DFAO will provide specialist advice, education, and operational support to clergy, employees, and managers, ensuring Newcastle Anglican is a leader in creating secure and respectful environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development and delivery of Newcastle Anglican’s Domestic and Family Abuse Strategic Prevention Plan.
- Design, deliver, and evaluate DFA prevention and response training for clergy, leaders, and key communities.
- Develop and maintain practical tools, resources, and policies to strengthen responses to domestic abuse.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to leaders and staff on complex DFA matters.
- Conduct risk assessments and support incident management to ensure safe and appropriate responses.
- Promote respectful behaviours, gender equity, and healthy models of masculinity.
- Build strong partnerships with clergy, parishes, staff, and external agencies.
- Monitor data, prepare reports, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Represent Newcastle Anglican in relevant networks and forums.

About You
You are strategic, compassionate, and culturally sensitive. You bring deep expertise in domestic and family violence prevention and response. You will thrive on building capacity across diverse communities and will be a trusted advisor, educator, and advocate for respectful relationships.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

- Tertiary qualifications in social science, gender studies, theology, health promotion, community development, education, or a related field.
- Demonstrated leadership in DFV prevention and response.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed and gendered practice.
- Proven experience in training, coaching, policy development, and safeguarding.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage effectively in faith-based and culturally diverse contexts.
- Current Driver’s Licence, Working with Children Check, and National Police Check.

The successful applicant will possess or willingness to obtain the following: NDIS Worker Screening Check, National Criminal History Check, First aid & CPR certificate and undertake a pre-employment functional medical.
