Bamaga Enterprises Ltd is seeking a skilled and motivated Hydraulic & Mechanical Technician to join our team at Cape York Traders / Hydraulink franchise in Bamaga. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys varied work, operating independently, and contributing to a community-focused organisation.
About the Role
You will diagnose, repair, and maintain hydraulic, mechanical, and fleet systems across workshop and mobile environments. The role includes on-call duties and travel throughout the Northern Peninsula Area, Thursday Island, and Horn Island as required, facilitating our Hydraulink hose and fittings franchise. A full Hydraulink Landcruiser and Trailer is supplied.
Key Responsibilities
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic and mechanical faults
• Manufacture and repair hydraulic hoses and fittings
• Maintain and repair plant and vehicle fleet, including fabrication, tyre fitting, installations, and general repairs
• Conduct daily checks, scheduled inspections, and maintain service records
• Complete job cards, timesheets, job costing, and administrative requirements
• Operate POS systems and manage customer invoicing
• Maintain a clean, safe workshop and comply with WHS requirements
• Source and manage parts and stock to minimise downtime
• Communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders
• Represent Bamaga Enterprises Ltd professionally
• Work collaboratively and keep the Operations Manager informed
About You
• Reliable, organised, and able to meet deadlines
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Flexible with hours, including after-hours and on-call work
• Willing to travel within the region
• Possess the general physical fitness required to safely perform the inherent duties of the role in accordance with WHS regulations
• Able to work in tropical and physically demanding conditions
• Committed to safety, professionalism, and mentoring apprentices
Essential Requirements
• Demonstrated mechanical experience (hydraulics highly regarded)
• Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (MEM30205)
• Queensland C Class Driver's Licence
• Criminal History Check
• Medical fitness for physically demanding work
Desirable
• Hydraulic hose experience
• Automotive or mechanical trade qualification
• Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role
Hours
• Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3.30pm
• After-hours and call-out work as required
