Primary objective
To assist the Court and the public by providing a service as Sheriff's Officer and jury escort and to assist the Sheriff in the
performance of functions under the Sheriff Act 1962.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Perform a wide range of Court duties, including opening and closing the Court and swearing in witnesses as well as
ensuring Courtrooms and ancillary rooms are ready for proceedings, and that audio and video equipment are operable,
including pre-recording systems.
1. Assist the Sheriff by empanelling juries and act as jury escort.
2. Advise the Sheriff/Deputy Sheriff of any Court orders, requiring immediate action, enter data into a computerised court
system and assist with enquiries at the public counter.
1. Provide assistance to the public, legal practitioners, police, and other users of the Court as required.
2. General duties as directed by the Sheriff/Deputy Sheriff.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Knowledge of or the ability to quickly acquire operational knowledge of Court practices, procedures, relevant legislation,
and rules.
2. Proven ability to take direction and work unsupervised in a highly sensitive, high-volume environment.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills appropriate for working in a legal environment in order to liaise with a
broad range of clients including people from diverse cultures.
4. High level of initiative and motivation with the ability to maintain a high degree of discretion and confidentiality.
5. Experience utilising various computer data bases and office software applications to produce court data and reports.
6. Experience in the use of technical communication equipment (e.g. video conferencing) with knowledge of the Integrated
Justice Information System (IJIS) and the Odyssey Case Management System or the ability to readily acquire such
knowledge.
Desirable
1. Current Senior First Aid Certificate.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant
from this position unless it is a relevant criminal history.
The core hours of the position are 8am to 4.21pm however, the position requires the incumbent to be present while court
is sitting, which can extend beyond these times.
