About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane has an exciting opportunity for an Enrolled Nurse to join the Ambulatory and Outpatients Service (AOPS) in a maximum-term, full-time role working as an elective surgery theatre/procedural scheduler until April ****. The Ambulatory Care & Outpatient Clinics offer exceptional individualized care and are committed to enhancing the patient experience by providing evidence-based education, information and support.
This role will work closely with the Breast, Endocrine and General Surgery specialists to ensure patients referred for elective procedures are scheduled within clinically appropriate timeframes whilst ensuring patients are optimally prepared for surgery prior to their theatre date.
As an Enrolled Nurse (EN) – Theatre Scheduler, you will play a vital role in coordinating elective surgical procedures while delivering high-quality, patient-centred nursing care. You will advocate for patients and ensure their physical, emotional and spiritual needs are met in a safe and efficient environment, contributing to optimal surgical outcomes.
Responsibilities
Scheduling patients for elective surgery procedures within clinically recommended timeframes
Utilisation of Elective Surgery Implementation Standard
Liaising with multidisciplinary teams to ensure patients are optimised pre-operatively
Delivery of safe, quality nursing care under direct and indirect supervision of nursing and medical teams
Identifying, escalating and managing clinical risks effectively
Participating in ongoing professional development and team meetings
Collaborating with healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated and effective care
Contributing to service planning, evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives
About you
Current AHPRA registration as an Enrolled Nurse (without restrictions)
Minimum 3 years' experience in a surgical nursing environment
Previous experience in surgical scheduling (highly desirable)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with patients, families and staff
Excellent time management and organisational abilities
Proficiency in electronic systems such as patient information systems, procedural booking tools, Microsoft Outlook and Excel
Knowledge of, or the ability to acquire knowledge of, Elective Surgery Waitlist governance and business rules
