The Role and Core Focus
The Engineering Team Lead balances strategic project leadership with meaningful hands-on development contributions, typically ranging from 15% to 30% of their time. The position is designed for a mature leader who can navigate the complexities of managing a talented, opinionated team while ensuring that technical standards remain uncompromising. The role's impact is centred on three primary pillars of responsibility.
Project Delivery
Acting as a primary enabler for project teams to ensure high-quality, timely delivery. This involves assisting with core technical solutions and resourcing while supporting project leads in their execution.
People Management
Taking full ownership of performance evaluations, mentorship, and career development. The Lead is responsible for conducting regular 1-on-1s and implementing performance improvement strategies where necessary.
Process Improvement
Designing and enforcing engineering processes that enhance work quality and mitigate risks. This includes optimizing the release cycle and improving the overall developer experience across the team.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work in close alignment with Product Managers to assess upcoming work and translate high-level requirements into actionable, deliverable backlogs. By collaborating with Principal Engineers and Architects, the Team Lead ensures that technical implementations are sound and that the team is guided effectively through complex challenges.
Beyond planning, the role demands a vigilant focus on product quality and system stability. This includes prioritizing technical tasks appropriately and managing incident responses with direct accountability. A central part of the mission is to nurture a high-performing culture, empowering team members through mentorship and fostering an environment where technical excellence is the standard.
Requirements
The ideal candidate brings a deep well of technical expertise and a proven track record of leadership within complex engineering environments. We are looking for individuals who can bridge the gap between technical complexity and business value with exceptional communication skills.
Technical Expertise
Extensive experience in .NET technologies with a strong hands-on background, ideally spanning 8+ years in software development.
Architecture
Deep understanding of event-driven architectures, microservices, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.
Leadership
Proven experience managing engineering teams or leading large-scale projects, with the maturity to lead diverse groups of experienced developers.
Standards
