Key Responsibilities
* Lead design, implementation, and maintenance of satellite communication systems (GEO and NGSO technologies)
* Support high-level design activities and technology investigations for satellite modernisation initiatives
* Plan and implement high-availability WAN services with satellite-based connectivity solutions
* Deploy and maintain satellite terminals across geographically dispersed locations
* Develop high-quality technical documentation, including system designs and maintenance plans
* Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and field technicians
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architecture, cyber assurance, and regional technical officers
* Travel regularly to remote posts for system deployment, maintenance, and support activities
Required Experience
* Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in Satellite Communications Engineering
* Demonstrated expertise in GEO and NGSO satellite systems design, testing, and optimisation
* Proven experience with RF and microwave communication systems across design, testing, and implementation
* Demonstrated expertise in planning and implementing high-availability WAN services with satellite-based solutions
* Experience designing and managing Wide Area Networks within complex, geographically dispersed environments
* Strong background in network security and system resilience
* Proven ability to engage with and mentor stakeholders at multiple levels
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate technical concepts to senior leadership
* Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities in complex environments
Technical Background
* Satellite communications engineering (GEO and NGSO systems)
* RF and microwave communication systems design and optimisation
* Wide Area Network engineering and integration
* High-availability communications architecture and redundancy strategies
* Technical documentation and system design methodologies
* Network security architecture and resilience planning
* Deployable communications systems operations
* Government or defence satellite communications project experience (advantageous)
Security and Location
* Australian Government security clearance and Australian citizenship are required
* Canberra-based role; in office attendance required, 5 days per week
* Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics/Communications) or Diploma of Engineering (highly desirable)
