Join the Northern Territory Government and play a key role in maintaining critical hospital infrastructure that supports the health and wellbeing of Territory communities.

The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure – Hospital Engineering Services provide 24/7 multi-disciplinary support to Royal Darwin and Palmerston Regional Hospitals. The team ensures Repairs and Maintenance is completed in accordance with legislative, legal, and Australian Standards requirements, ensuring compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and the hospital accreditation cycle.

The Role

As Engineering Services Mechanical Manager, you’ll be responsible for the effective contract management of mechanical services repairs and maintenance at Palmerston Regional Hospital. You’ll also support the management of mechanical services maintenance period contracts at Royal Darwin Hospital and work interchangeably with the RDH Engineering Services Mechanical Manager as required.

You’ll manage all phases of trade-based contract delivery, provide high-level advice on contract-related matters, and ensure compliance with the NT Building Act, Construction Code, Australian Standards, and other legal obligations. You’ll oversee the implementation and administration of mechanical period contracts, ensuring safe, high-quality service delivery aligned with WHS policies.

You’ll also be part of the on-call roster, providing after-hours support to both hospitals. Your work will directly contribute to the reliability and safety of essential hospital infrastructure.

About you

Mechanical or refrigeration trade qualifications, relevant technical certification, or minimum 3 years’ related experience

Strong contract management and interpersonal skills, including contractor supervision

Extensive experience in Centralised Plant and Building Mechanical Services

Sound knowledge of Australian Standards and mandatory maintenance obligations

Effective communicator across technical, trade and administrative teams

Adaptable under pressure with strong risk analysis and time management skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office and email systems
