Overview

Primary objectiveFacilitate the compliance with workplace health and safety legislation, organisational goals in addition to contributing to improving workplace health and safety performance and manage staff absenteeism. Provide professional, efficient, consistent and reliable customer service across Darwin Correctional Centre and Datjala Work Camp.

Key duties and responsibilities

* Inform Managers of their responsibilities under the Work Health and Safety legislation and provide support to ongoing compliance with the return-to-work plan.
* Provide the appropriate guidance and support to staff so they are able to meet their WHS responsibilities and support staff to develop and update their return-to-work plans.
* Prepare and conduct research projects and issues as required by the Deputy Superintendent Administration and Manager Rosters and Operational Support.
* Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a highly professional approach and attitude.
* Support the Deputy Superintendent Administration in the management of staff absenteeism.
* Manage a range of concurrent administrative activities including secretariat functions ensuring tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner and deadlines are met.
* Demonstrate working knowledge of injury prevention and management strategies and the ability to deliver education and training programs.

Selection criteria

Essential

* Demonstrated experience providing Secretariat support to senior managers with superior organisational skills, writing and recording skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels and in a culturally appropriate manner with people from a diverse range of backgrounds, in particular experience working with Aboriginal Australians.
* Proven experience in negotiation skills and ability to resolve complex conflict situations while remaining professional and diplomatic.
* A high level of computing skills with proficiency in electronic rostering systems, interfacing payroll systems, staff management systems and office systems, such as spreadsheets and databases.
* Demonstrated experience and exposure to providing WHS guidance and advice.
* Demonstrated experience in working relationships with all managers and staff on site as well as external stakeholders, providing advice and guidance on all related and specialised WHS or Return to work plan matters.
* Demonstrated experience in conducting audits, inspections along with providing advice on all WHS issues.

Desirable

* Work Health and Safety Qualifications, related discipline or related work experience.
* Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. Public Administration Business Management, Human Resource Management or similar
