Position Overview
Are you someone who enjoys structured, repeatable work and applying clear rules consistently?
We’re looking for a Cyber Security Assessor to conduct security assessments of external clients using pre-established policies, standards, and guidelines. The work is methodical and assessment-focused, rather than engineer based. Each external assessment follows the same core framework, applied across different organizations.
This role suits someone who takes satisfaction in accuracy, consistency, and doing things properly, every time.
Key Responsibilities
· Book and conduct security assessments of external AFSL firms using predefined policies, checklists, and assessment frameworks
· Evaluate organizational, technical, and operational security controls against established requirements
· Collect and review evidence provided by assessed entities to support assessment outcomes
· Identify control gaps, non-compliance, and areas of improvement in line with assessment criteria
· Produce clear, accurate, and well-structured assessment reports and supporting documentation
· Ensure assessments are completed consistently, objectively, and within agreed timeframes
· Maintain assessment records in accordance with governance and audit requirements
· Escalate identified risks or material issues in line with internal procedures
· Stay informed of changes to relevant regulations, standards, and internal policies impacting assessments
Key Requirements
· Australian PR/ Citizen
· Availability to work full time hours
· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, particularly for formal reporting
· Experience conducting security, risk, or compliance assessments in regulated environments
· Strong ability to interpret predefined policies, standards, and guidelines
· High attention to detail and consistency in assessment outcomes
· Ability to analyze documentation, evidence, and control implementations objectively
· Strong organizational and time-management skills
· Customer focused approach with a patient and friendly demeanor
· Ability to provide high quality outcomes while working independently
· Occasional travel may be required so a car and valid license would be preferable
Desirable Skills/ Experience
· Background in information security, risk management, compliance, or audits
· Experience working with security frameworks or standards (e.g. ISO 27001, NIST, Essential 8)
· Prior experience assessing third parties, vendors
· Prior experience/ knowledge of financial service industry’s
· Understanding of governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) tools or platforms
· Knowledge of penetration testing, vulnerability management, and network security.
· Familiarity with audit methodologies, data analytics tools, and risk assessment techniques.
· Experience in assessing IT controls for business continuity and disaster recovery.
