We are expanding our retail operations and seeking an experienced Branch Manager to lead our Melbourne branch, building a high‑performing, LEAN focussed and safety‑conscience team.
Key Purpose
Lead and manage all aspects of the Melbourne branch to deliver excellent customer outcomes, safe operations and efficient day‑to‑day performance.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide leadership and support to staff, creating a positive working culture focused on building a successful business
* Increase branch productivity through effective budgeting, elimination of inefficiencies and capturing growth opportunities
* Evaluate branch personnel performance periodically, set goals and objectives, and provide formal and informal feedback on a regular basis
* Ensure employee safety by enforcing safety rules, correcting hazards and maintaining equipment and vehicle standards
* Promote an environment of empowerment, respect and trust while holding team members accountable
* Champion the ongoing implementation of LEAN principles, and foster a culture of improvement
* Work with HR to anticipate staffing needs and assist with training new employees
* Work closely with the sales team, key customers and key suppliers to solve challenges and leverage growth opportunities
* Resolve customer issues professionally and in a timely manner
* Manage daily operations with a focus on customer service; identify and implement improvements as required
* Oversee warehouse, production and transport functions while promoting a safe working culture
* Be willing and able to perform any branch job function as needed
* Actively participate in process improvement projects
* Analyse activities, costs, operations and forecasts to assess progress against branch goals and to maintain competitiveness
* Direct accounts receivable activities and ensure outstanding debt is managed; liaise with Finance as required
* Responsible for administrative requirements for office operation, including banking, stationery purchase, etc.
* Assist with the entry/QC orders, take payments, send customer statements on request, assist with credit note queries
* Assist with pick/post orders, check and receive incoming stock, assist with stocktakes if required, picking full length and hardware replen, sales returns
Selection Criteria
* Minimum five years' experience managing staff in a warehouse, sales manager or branch manager role
* Background in manufacturing or technical operations or products preferred
* Demonstrated customer service focus with strong problem resolution skills
* Experience with LEAN implementation
* Proven ability to train, coach and develop staff; experience delivering on‑the‑job training and formal development programs
* Strong communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build long‑term relationships
* Practical WHS experience with a commitment to maintaining a safe workplace
* Proactive, hands‑on approach; willing to roll up your sleeves and perform operational tasks when required
* Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and comfortable learning CRM and communication tools
* Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment
Qualifications and Checks
* Forklift ticket and mechanical/technical experience preferable
