Mamamia is on the lookout for a News Editor to join our best-in-class Editorial team.
But first, here's a bit about us.
Mamamia is Australia's largest women's media company.
Our core purpose is to make the world a better place for women and girls. That's what guides everything we do. And, uh, we do a lot. Mamamia reaches seven million women each month across our written, video, audio, and social platforms and we have the largest women's podcast network in the world.
**What we're looking for.**
As News Editor at Mamamia, you'll be the driving force behind our distinctive approach to news storytelling, crafting compelling narratives that make complex stories accessible and engaging for our audience. Working closely with our Features Editor, you'll shape our news coverage across Australian and international news, politics, sport, crime, and human interest stories, always finding the angles that matter most to our readers.
You'll lead our news agenda with a sharp eye for stories that need to be told, bringing Mamamia's unique perspective to breaking news and major events while ensuring our coverage remains relevant, timely, and impactful. This is an opportunity to redefine how women consume and connect with news content, making the important stories of the day both accessible and meaningful to our engaged audience
- Please note - This is an initial 12 month contract that is Part time._
**Here's some of the stuff you can expect to be doing if you join us**:
- You're a news-obsessed editor with sharp news judgment and the ability to spot stories that matter to our audience, bringing Mamamia's unique perspective to everything from breaking news to deep-dive investigations
- You're an exceptional editor who can mentor writers, commission compelling content, and maintain the highest standards of accuracy and legal compliance while meeting tight deadlines
- You have a proven track record in creating engaging multi-platform content, from written articles to TikTok explainers, and understand how to optimise stories for different channels
- You're a natural leader who can coordinate breaking news coverage, train junior writers, and work collaboratively with our podcast teams (The Quicky and True Crime Conversations) to ensure cohesive storytelling across platforms
- You have strong digital skills, including SEO knowledge and social media expertise, with the ability to craft engaging headlines and social content that drives engagement
- You're an organised self-starter who stays on top of industry trends, monitors performance metrics, and maintains a network of reliable sources while managing multiple deadlines and projects
**Now, a bit about you.**
- Minimum five (5) years experience as a content producer for a digital publisher
- Proven experience using social platforms to distribute content
- A team player who takes ownership of responsibilities, communicates effectively and gives and receives feedback with honesty, respect, curiosity, and openness.
- Ability to prioritise the needs and perspectives of our audience and commercial partners in decision-making and problem-solving
- Demonstrated ability to adapt a measured approach and drive process improvement initiatives and solve problems creatively in a fast-paced workplace.
**Life at Mamamia.**
We're fast-paced, innovative, and deeply collaborative. Mamamia feels small enough that you can create real and tangible change, but has the structure to support your ideas with experienced and industry-leading teams, and deliver them to an audience of millions of women every month.
We have a startup spirit within a scaled-up business structure and we're incredibly proud of the culture and community we've created. Our team is inclusive, passionate, and fun (..although apparently, not very modest about it); many lifelong friendships and connections have been forged in Mamamia HQ.
But enough about us, let's talk about how we can help you. At Mamamia, we want to support all of our staff in kicking as many career goals as possible so that's why we'll support you in getting involved in the things you're actually interested in. Think you might want to broaden your scope? Get exposure to another team in the business? Try something new and develop your skills? We'll help you make it happen and cheer you on the whole way.
On top of all that, Mamamia also offers:
- Flexible working conditions (Hybrid working model)
- A day off to celebrate your birthday
- Additional leave for years of service, plus annual rewards to celebrate your work anniversaries
- Paid parental leave
- Enjoy paid volunteer leave to support RizeUp, our charity partner.
- The opportunity to work for a purpose-driven company and help us make the world a better place for women and girls.
- Access to MOVE by Mamamia-our exclusive platform offering a range of workouts you can do anytime, anywhere, with no equipment needed.
