About the Role
You will be a senior data scientist in an embedded analytics team within Canva's Security group. Your work will focus on building analytical models, maintaining backend services, and providing leadership with clear data‑driven recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Security metrics that drive decisions – own metrics, build and maintain scorecards and KPI dashboards across vulnerability management, identity & access, and compliance. Design data models, dashboards, OKRs, and translate data insights into action.
2. Evaluations & quality for AI‑powered services – build the evaluation framework, curate ground truth data, design quality metrics, create human feedback loops, iterate on classification approaches. Act as both data scientist and product owner.
3. Analytical solutions for real‑time security problems – design streaming analytics, high‑concurrency queries, and monitoring across cloud environments. Partner with engineers and privacy teams to scope problems and build analytical foundations.
4. Day‑to‑day activities – analyse datasets to measure risk and surface insights, design experiments, build statistical models, write SQL and Python code, present findings to leadership, collaborate across teams, mentor peers, share knowledge, and contribute reusable patterns.
Qualifications
* Track record of converting data into actionable decisions – preferably in security or risk, but strong analytical experience elsewhere is also acceptable.
* Strong SQL and Python skills with production‑grade experience in modern data stack tools such as dbt and cloud warehouses.
* Ability to own an end‑to‑end problem: scope, build data models, validate outputs, and communicate insights to non‑technical stakeholders.
* Experience designing evaluation frameworks or quality metrics for ML/AI systems (ground truth, precision/recall, feedback loops).
* Clear, concise communication skills for writing documentation, presenting to leadership, and explaining complex findings.
* Independent, self‑directed senior contributor comfortable flagging priorities.
* Bonus: experience in security domain (data classification, access control, vulnerability management, compliance frameworks, threat detection), familiarity with LLMs, dimensional modelling, semantic layers, streaming analytics, and a STEM degree.
