Capital Linen Service (CLS) is a long‑established commercial operation within the ACT Government, delivering critical linen and laundry services to hospitals, aged care providers and essential community services across Canberra and the surrounding region.
We're seeking an emerging operational leader from a production, manufacturing, logistics or industrial services background to step into the role of Assistant Director Operations. This role offers the opportunity to support leadership in a large‑scale, high‑volume operations that genuinely matter, while enjoying the stability, flexibility and people‑first conditions of public sector employment.

About the role
As Assistant Director Operations, you'll be a key member of the CLS leadership team, supporting the Director Operations to deliver safe, efficient and high‑performing laundry and logistics operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines time on the floor with broader administrative and planning responsibilities. It suits someone who enjoys working closely with supervisors and teams to optimise workflow, improve performance and build a positive, inclusive culture, while also confidently managing the required administrative workload.
You will also be required to lead shifts and fill in for the Director during periods of leave.
You'll work across production and transport functions, using data, practical judgement and strong people skills to keep a complex operation running smoothly.
Experience in an industrial laundry is highly regarded, but we welcome applicants from a broad range of production and operational environments.
What you'll be doing
Within a laundry operation that delivers 365 days a year you will be responsible for:
* Leading daily production and logistics operations in a high‑volume industrial environment
* Supporting and mentoring lead supervisors, supervisors and leading hands.
* Using operational data to drive efficiencies, quality improvements and cost savings
* Managing workforce planning, rosters and resourcing to meet fluctuating demand.
* Championing workplace health and safety and embedding safe work practices.
* Driving a respectful, inclusive and engaged workplace culture
* Contributing to continuous improvement, training and capability development
* Playing an active role in operational planning and strategic execution including working with other CLS teams across the business
What we're looking for
You don't need public sector or laundry experience to succeed, however, we are looking for previous operational leadership and experience in managing people and leading teams. We're looking for operational leaders with:
* Experience managing or leading operations in production, manufacturing, logistics or industrial services.
* Ability to work rosters and shifts to meet operational requirements, this may include occasional weekend and public holiday work.
* Confidence leading a culturally diverse workforces in fast‑paced, physical environments.
* A practical, solutions‑focused approach to problem solving.
* Strong people leadership and communication skills
* The ability to improve on safety, quality, productivity and costs.
* A values‑driven leadership style aligned with respect, collaboration and integrity.

Eligibility/Other requirements:
* Experience in an operational production or industrial setting (five years or more) is highly desirable, with industrial laundry experience also highly considered.
* Driver's licence (C class) is essential.
* Experienced user of Microsoft Office Programs.
