Due to an increased demand within our business, SYPAQ are seeking a Systems Engineer to work on-site our client within the Department of Defence. The opportunity is based in Canberra. This contracted role is to commenced ASAP until 30th June 2026 with potential extension.
The successful candidate will be coordinating and completing assigned systems engineering. You will also need to work closely with commercial resources to ensure alignment of Engineering and Technical artefacts with wider programmatic and commercial intent.
The role requires, Defence specific experience in:
* Familiarity with the Capability Acquisition process and intimate knowledge of the One Defence Capability System (ODCS) lifecycle.
* Defence capital acquisition projects.
* Performing critical and complex engineering activities
* Evaluating delivered materiel/items meets requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks, provide recommendations
* exercising assigned engineering authorities and any Technical Regulatory Authority delegations
* effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders
* Technical certification & Engineering compliance
* Engineering change process including experience in Configuration Control Board
* conduct reviews of contract deliverablesunderstanding of Defence engineering policies, processes and plans.
* systems engineering technical and professional advice.
* the ability to draft and review systems engineering artefacts across the full systems engineering lifecycle.
* the ability to work under limited direction to perform and achieve complex systems engineering work.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• The conduct of tender evaluations as a member of a Tender Evaluation Working Group.
• researching and developing requirements.
• Experience in Land domain.
• Experienced in leading engineering tasks and teams.
• Conduct reviews of contract deliverables.
• Subject matter Systems engineering input, including drafting and review of the contract statement of work, CDRLs, DIDs and DSDs.
• supporting development of engineering plans (e.g. Test and Evaluation Master Plan, Systems Engineering Management Plan, Safety Management Plan, Configuration Management Plan).
• Supporting development of documents in preparation of Government submissions.
• Providing professional engineering advice in accordance with the applicable engineering governance frameworks.
About you
* A qualified engineering practitioner with a minimum of Engineering Degree qualification with relevant and recent defence industry experience of more than 7 years.
* Work under broad supervision.
* Good understanding of Defence Systems Engineering concepts.
* Understanding of the One Defence Capability System (formerly the Capability Life Cycle).
* Previous and current Systems Engineering experience.
* Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance.
* Current/active Chartered Engineering accreditation preferred.
