The Opportunity
We're seeking an IT Applications Manager who can both lead and contribute directly. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll manage a small team while also getting into the detail — solving problems, diagnosing root causes, and driving efficiency and improvement. Our environment is complex and varied, combining in-house systems, third-party Library Management Systems, and multiple integration points — making this an excellent opportunity to stretch your technical skills while building leadership experience.
What You'll Do
Lead and mentor a small application support team while contributing directly to problem-solving.
Build a deep understanding of our in-house and third-party systems, supporting staff and customers in their effective use.
Support the rollout of new business processes and software systems.
Document system functionality and support processes to build organisational knowledge.
Monitor and support key operational tasks such as EDI (Electronic Data Interchange).
Perform root cause analysis to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Provide help desk support across systems, networking, and core office technologies.
Allocate tasks, track progress, and ensure timely resolution of issues.
About You
You're someone who enjoys being both a doer and a leader — equally comfortable troubleshooting technical challenges and motivating others to succeed. You'll bring:
Experience leading or mentoring IT support teams.
A mix of hands-on experience with modern web-based applications and older legacy systems.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and empathetically.
A customer service mindset and ownership mentality — you see issues through to completion.
A tertiary qualification in IT or equivalent experience.
Your Technical Toolkit
Essential – experience with:
Windows 10/11
SQL
RESTful Web APIs
Valued (but not required)– experience with:
Library Management Systems (Sierra, Spydus, Libero, Symphony, Aurora, Worldshare)
Networking
Jira, Confluence, Service Desk
What We Offer
Hands-on leadership role, manage and do, with plenty of variety in your day.
Work-life balance — no on-call roster, very limited overtime (only during planned outages and upgrades), and early finishes (2:30 pm Fridays, 4:30 pm Monday–Thursday).
Professional growth — opportunities to work with diverse technologies in a dynamic, evolving environment.
Wholesale perks — staff can purchase books, DVDs, and other library materials at wholesale rates.
