The Opportunity:This senior role is ideal for an estimating professional, ideally with an Electrical background, who combines strong technical capability with leadership, commercial acumen, and a passion for delivering high-quality, competitive tenders.
Reporting directly to the GM of Avid EPG Group, the Senior Electrical Estimator is responsible for leading the Estimating team in the preparation of accurate, competitive, and commercially robust electrical estimates across a diverse portfolio of projects
This role is pivotal to securing strategically significant work and supporting Avid Group's continued growth. You will act as a technical authority within the estimating function, providing guidance to junior estimators, driving consistency and best practice, and contributing to tender strategy and risk management.
As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to independently assess complex project documentation, identify commercial and technical risks, engage with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure timely submission of high-quality tenders aligned with business objectives.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to determine accurate pricing and resourcing
* Develop detailed cost estimates, including labour, materials, plant, subcontractor, and indirect costs
* Provide input into tender strategies, methodologies, risk assessments, and value engineering initiatives
* Review, analyse, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor pricing to ensure best-value outcomes
* Maintain and enhance electrical cost databases, rate libraries, and benchmarking tools
* Collaborate closely with engineering, project delivery, fabrication, and electrical teams to ensure alignment and constructability
* Mentor, coach, and support junior and intermediate estimators, fostering capability development
* Ensure estimates comply with client requirements, industry standards, and internal governance frameworks
* Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating systems, tools, and processes
Key Requirements:
* Minimum 5+ years' experience in electrical estimating, with demonstrated senior-level responsibility
* Experience within electrical manufacturing environments essential; exposure to switchboards and modular switchroom projects highly regarded
* Degree or trade qualification in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline required
* Strong technical knowledge of electrical construction methods, materials, and Australian standards
* Proven ability to manage multiple tenders concurrently and meet tight deadlines
* Highly developed analytical, numerical, and commercial judgement skills
* Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes
