Support the development and delivery of Phase 5 of the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement Fixed Term, Full-Time Opportunity to work with a high-performing and passionate team in the Victorian Public Service VPS Grade 5: $113,022 - $136,747plus superannuation. The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Senior Policy Officer to provide a critical role within the Aboriginal Justice Policy Reform Unit (AJPRU). This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. About the Business Unit The Aboriginal Justice Policy Reform Unit (AJPRU) drives structural and systemic transformation and coordinates efforts across the department to improve justice outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians through policy development, legislative reform, and genuine commitment to self-determination. The AJPRU has primary responsibility for coordinating the delivery of the Aboriginal Justice group's law and policy reform agenda, including key reforms identified in the Burra Lotjpa Dunguludja - Aboriginal Justice Agreement Phase 4 (AJA4), a formal partnership with Aboriginal communities to reduce Aboriginal over-representation and improve justice outcomes. About the Role Reporting to the Manager, you will work within a small team to provide policy advice, analysis and initiatives to develop the AJA5. This is a joint project delivered in partnership with the Koori Justice Unit (KJU), and you will work as part of the joint AJA5 project team lead by the KJU. The work across both units is driven by close engagement with the Aboriginal Justice Caucus and Forum, ensuring that community voices remain at the heart of all Aboriginal Justice's work. Some of your duties will include: Provide advice in relation to strategic Aboriginal Justice policy matters relating to development of AJA5 and apply experience in reform development, focusing on stakeholder engagement and emerging policy and implementation issues. Provide policy and strategic advice to the Manager, Director, Executive Director, Deputy Secretary, Board of Management and Ministers on justice priorities for Aboriginal Victorians. Promote positive relationships with other government agencies and stakeholders to identify options and develop innovative strategies for implementing the government's agenda. About you To be successful in this role, you will have: Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting it. Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community. Demonstrated experience in policy development, research and implementation, informed by community consultation and targeted engagement. Demonstrated experience drafting high-quality written documents on complex issues (such as briefs, reports or policy papers).
