We have an exciting opportunity at nbn for a Managing Counsel, Competition and Regulatory to join our Enterprise Legal team. This role reports to the General Manager, Enterprise Legal and plays a critical role in shaping how nbn navigates complex regulatory and competition landscapes in support of its long-term purpose.
A bit about your role
As Managing Counsel, Competition and Regulatory, you will lead a small, highly specialised team and take ownership of complex competition and regulatory matters that are critical to nbn's operations and long-term strategy. You will be responsible for providing trusted, senior legal advice across competition law, telecommunications regulation and access regulation, helping the organisation navigate a dynamic and highly regulated environment with confidence.
In this role, you will work in close partnership with senior stakeholders, where you will bring clarity to complexity and help shape decisions that balance regulatory obligations with commercial outcomes. Your focus will be on creating space for your team to thrive, fostering a supportive and high-performing environment where expertise is shared and developed.
As nbn continues to evolve, you will play a key role in guiding the organisation through change, ensuring regulatory risks are well understood, managed thoughtfully, and embedded beyond the immediate team.
A bit about you
You are an accomplished legal leader with deep experience across at least two of competition law, access regulation or telecommunications regulation. Your experience has been gained in a leading law firm or large regulated organisation. You bring sound judgement, intellectual curiosity and the confidence to lead complex work with minimal oversight, while remaining collaborative and open in your approach. Post-graduate qualifications in competition law and economics or access regulation will be highly regarded.
You lead with care and intention, valuing connection, trust and shared success. Your ability to influence in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, and to support a team of specialist expert lawyers to do their best work, is key. You are motivated by purpose and drawn to the opportunity to contribute to outcomes that matter for customers, communities and the future of Australia's digital infrastructure.
