Hassell Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
We specialise in architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and urban design. Our diverse, multi‑disciplinary team brings together a wealth of skills and perspectives that unlock the economic, social, and cultural potential of projects.
Across our studios we connect insight and creativity, creating a better future by designing the world's best places – places people love. At Hassell, we're dedicated to sustainability and regenerative design. Our designers play a pivotal role in shaping a better future for communities and our planet.
About the team
Our design values are shared globally across all the Hassell studios, by the talented people who work in them: landscape architects, urban designers, architects, interior designers, planners and specialist consultants. We work together in integrated design teams because they produce the best outcomes for our clients. The increasingly complex projects that clients bring to us demand a culture built on collaboration, creativity, and innovation in design thinking and delivery. Openness and empathy with our clients ensure their interests are at the heart of everything we design.
About the role
We're looking for an Associate to join our Sydney studio on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract, while one of our team members is on parental leave. This role will suit a talented Senior Landscape Architect who's ready to lead small‑to‑medium projects, guide teams, and help shape places that improve how we live, work and connect.
This role is focused on leading high‑quality landscape and urban design projects across commercial, cultural, and mixed‑use precincts. You'll collaborate across disciplines, contribute to winning work, and bring a clear design point of view backed by built experience.
You'll play a key leadership role in the team though:
* Leading small to mid‑sized project teams and initiatives—managing scope, design quality and commercial performance
* Developing client relationships, contributing to bids and proposals, and supporting business development
* Acting as a trusted professional, guiding projects from early strategy through to detailed design and delivery
* Supporting the growth of others—mentoring team members and creating development opportunities
About you
* 8+ years' experience as a Senior Landscape Architect working on a variety of project typologies—from early concept through to delivery.
* Strong conceptual design skills with the ability to translate ideas into clear, compelling design outcomes.
* Confident working directly with clients and stakeholders—able to build trust, communicate clearly and guide conversations.
* Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, including architects, interiors, and urban design.
* Proficiency in Revit and a solid understanding of how landscape design integrates with broader project coordination.
* AILA registration (or working towards it) preferred.
* Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, design‑led environment within a global practice.
* Ability to manage your time across multiple projects and contribute to competitions, bids, and presentations when needed.
* Demonstrate strong teamwork, initiative, adaptability, and a passion for design excellence
You're someone who:
* Brings a clear design voice—communicating ideas with clarity and creativity
* Thinks strategically, engaging diverse perspectives to shape project outcomes
* Understands the balance between technical excellence and design ambition
* Enjoys leading, mentoring and enabling others to grow
* Is commercially minded, keeping projects on track and helping identify future opportunities
