The Role

As the APS 6 Facilities Manager, you will provide oversight and management for the use and maintenance of Training Authority – Engineering (TA-ENG) training facilities (physical buildings and infrastructure) located nationally. TA-ENG has training facilities located at HMAS Cerberus (VIC), Randwick Barracks (NSW), HMAS Stirling (WA), HMAS Coonawarra (NT) and HMAS Cairns (North QLD).

Facilities management functions include but not limited to:

* Oversee the management of upkeep of properties through direct engagement with Security and Estate Group (SEG) and relevant Property and Asset services contract service provider;
* Oversee the management of planned and preventative maintenance services including regular review of building and equipment maintenance reports;
* Coordinate with facility users the implementation of repairs, maintenance and renovations, to minimise the impact to training delivery requirements;
* Develop and maintain a range of internal and external stakeholder relationships that include Service representatives (Navy, Army and RAAF), SEG, Contract training providers and sub-contractors across multiple bases;
* Assist with managing the WHS obligations and services for TA-ENG facilities including the conduct of routine safety inspections;
* Provide oversight of and apply asset management principles to the use and upkeep of fixed technical training aids and associated plant;
* Maintain facility management records;
* Participate in and assist with strategic planning analysis and business case development to support retirement of old facilities and development of new facilities as required to meet the changing training forecasts and requirements; and
* Prepare and author briefs, business cases and formal correspondence as required to inform and enable corporate decision making.

This position will suit an experienced, independent and self-motivated individual who thrives in a team dynamic. You will work independently with reasonable autonomy and be accountable for achieving your deliverables. You will be expected to utilise initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures in the context of how the training facility is used by Defence.

About our Team

This position is based at HMAS Cerberus (adjacent to suburb of Crib Point) VIC but supports training facility management and oversight at Randwick Barracks, HMAS Stirling, HMAS Coonawarra and HMAS Cairns. The primary work location is onsite at HMAS Cerberus with planned business travel to the other training sites anticipated once per year.

The APS 6 Facilities Manager reports directly to the Deputy Director TA-ENG for individual management and administration purposes. The position has one direct subordinate (assistant facilities manager), with direct regular engagement with other unit based facility representatives.
