Details: Student Behaviour Support (SBS) Coaches (HP4) provide a structured coaching service that strengthens school-based staff capability and improves student outcomes through a preventative Tier 2 approach. Using the SBS coaching model and coaching cycles, the coach partners with teachers and other key staff to identify practice challenges, set targeted goals and implement evidence-informed strategies in everyday classroom contexts where complex student behaviour is present.
The role focuses on building staff confidence, consistency and effectiveness (primarily teachers and LSAs) in responding to complex student behaviour, rather than delivering direct therapeutic intervention to students. SBS Coaches work collaboratively with school staff and align with whole-school frameworks such as PBL and RRE to ensure the service complements other Directorate supports.
SBS Coaches work within a multidisciplinary team that includes senior teachers, occupational therapists, psychologists and speech pathologists.
Coaches bring a collaborative, system-oriented approach to service delivery. They share practice insights, contribute to continuous improvement of the SBS model, and support a coherent team-based approach across participating schools. Drawing on their professional expertise, SBS Coaches deliver high-quality coaching that builds staff capability at scale, strengthens preventative practices and supports schools to respond effectively to emerging student need.
All SBS Coaches will receive training in coaching and in the SBS coaching model on commencement.
Eligibility/Other requirements:
* Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy
* Current registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
* Capacity to provide the lifting required for handling and positioning inherent in clinical intervention of clients and trial of equipment, in accordance with relevant Workplace Health and Safety standards.
* Eligibility for Membership with the Australian Occupational Therapy Association.
* Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
* ACT driver's license and use of own vehicle for work purposes.
* Minimum of five years\' experience as occupational therapist.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in adult learning and development e.g. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Note: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months.
A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill similar vacancies over the next 12 months.
