"WELD COORDINTOR & SUPERVISOR" required for a Newcastle based Steel company.

This is a Full-Time position working a 38hr week plus overtime as / when required

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Weld Coordinator & Supervisor to manage and supervise welding activities on structural steel fabrication projects in accordance with AS 5131, AS/NZS ISO 9001, and TfNSW B201 requirements.

The role is critical to ensuring welding compliance, quality assurance, and traceability across all fabrication stages.

Key Responsibilities

Welding Coordination (AS 5131)

* Act as the nominated Weld Coordinator under AS 5131
* Ensure steelwork fabrication complies with the nominated Construction Category (CC2/CC3 as applicable)
* Review, implement, and control approved WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications
* Ensure welding consumables, parent materials, and procedures comply with project specifications

Supervision & Production Control

* Supervise welders and fabrication personnel in workshop and site environments
* Allocate welding work in line with welder competency and qualification records
* Monitor workmanship, productivity, and adherence to approved fabrication procedures
* Identify, report, and manage welding non-conformances

Quality Management (AS/NZS ISO 9001)

* Implement and maintain welding-related quality processes in line with ISO 9001
* Ensure fabrication activities follow controlled procedures and inspection test plans (ITPs)
* Maintain weld traceability, inspection records, and quality documentation
* Support internal audits, external audits, and client inspections

Inspection & Testing (B201 Compliance)

* Coordinate visual inspections and required NDT in accordance with TfNSW B201
* Liaise with third-party inspectors, engineers, and client representatives
* Ensure NCRs, corrective actions, and close-outs meet project and specification requirements
* Maintain compliant Manufacturing Data Records (MDRs)

Safety & Leadership

* Promote safe welding and fabrication practices in line with WHS requirements
* Lead, mentor, and support welders and apprentices
* Drive a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement

Essential Requirements

* Demonstrated experience as a Weld Coordinator / Welding Supervisor
* Strong working knowledge of AS 5131 (mandatory)
* Understanding of TfNSW B201 or similar road/bridge authority specifications
* Experience working within an AS/NZS ISO 9001 certified quality system
* Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and specifications

Desirable Qualifications

* Trade qualification in Boilermaking / Welding
* Welding coordination qualification (AS2214 – 2024, AS1796 or IWS)
* Visual inspection (VT) experience or certification
* Experience on TfNSW / RMS / CC3 infrastructure projects
