Position Overview
The Early Childhood Teacher provides active leadership to educators and room leaders in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a child-focused education and care curriculum, ensuring consistency with the service philosophy and the National Quality Framework. The teacher supports staff professional learning and collaborates with the educational leader and nominated supervisor.
Responsibilities
* Provide education and care for children in the service, consistent with philosophy, curriculum, and National Quality Framework requirements.
* Collaborate with educators, room leaders, the educational leader, and the nominated supervisor.
* Place safety, rights, and best interests of children above all operational, financial, or stakeholder considerations.
* Uphold the vision of the centre, support Biblical values, teach Biblical truths, and pray with staff.
* Be an active member of a Christian church, participate in regular teaching and fellowship, and handle centre matters with confidentiality.
* Demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit in daily life and participate in staff evaluation and self-reflection.
* Implement a high-quality curriculum consistent with the service philosophy, procedures, policies, National Regulations, National Law, National Quality Standards, and the Early Years Learning Framework.
* Support, lead, and mentor other educators to embed the Learning Framework, making learning visible, responsive to guidance, well documented, linked to approved outcomes, and based on early learning theories.
* Engage in critical reflection, evaluate children's learning, and use it for future planning.
* Provide leadership in documentation of children and family information, observation, evaluation, implementation of plans, and reflective practice.
* Role model children in learning opportunities that respond to meaningful moments, intentional and spontaneous interactions, child agency and choice, routine times, information technology, and environmental sustainability.
* Support an inclusive environment by supporting every child's learning, modelling positive interactions, respecting similarities and differences, maintaining dignity, responding to emotional and social needs, providing physical care, understanding funding structures, and recording developmental and service planning.
* Support children's wellbeing in sleep, rest, and relaxation.
* Create an environment that is ready each day, reflects curiosity and problem solving, acknowledges indoor/outdoor environments, and provokes discussions on sustainability.
* Ensure activities meet developmental needs and interests, document and display projects for parents and community, and complete required NQF records in a timely manner.
* Provide each child with a sense of Being, Belonging, and Becoming, maintain records, and support children's right to be heard and act on their voices, including rights-based practices.
* Demonstrate respect for families as the child's first teacher, maintain professional and inclusive relationships, communicate professionally and confidentially, inform parents appropriately, draw on family knowledge, engage in shared decision making, and support families with inclusion support.
* Build collaborative relationships with all staff, engage in professional conversations to enhance knowledge and practice, and support personal strengths and diversity.
* Work within National Quality Framework, Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics, service philosophy, policies, and procedures. Engage in learning community, contribute as a team member, stay aware of contemporary practice, participate in performance appraisal, reflective practice, staff meetings, and leadership team activities.
* Undertake Food Safe training, First Aid training (including Anaphylaxis and Asthma), and Child Protection training at intervals set by the responsible person.
* Assist with the Services Quality Improvement Plan, perform incidental administrative duties, maintain supplies and equipment levels, support students on placement, and inform the nominated supervisor of any issues affecting children, approval or rating, regulatory compliance, or service running.
* Represent the organisation positively, uphold St Philip's Christian College vision, mission, core values, Narnia Early Learning values, and policies, attend staff meetings, and implement organisational policies.
* Work to ensure safe and healthy environment, implement and monitor WHS practices, review emergency procedures, maintain duty of care, respond to additional needs, read the Right to Disconnect policy, act immediately on safety issues, follow child protection policies, report allegations, embed protective behaviours, and support children to understand personal boundaries.
Selection Criteria
* Willingness to be appointed as a nominated supervisor, responsible person, or educational leader.
* Postgraduate or tertiary qualifications in leadership or service leadership experience.
* Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and documentation of children's learning.
* Commitment to ongoing professional learning.
Skills and Experience
* Skills to meet Education and Care Services National Regulations.
* Ability to partner with families.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills with adults and children.
* Early Childhood Teaching qualification or equivalent.
* ACECQA approved First Aid/Asthma and Anaphylaxis certificate and CPR certificate.
* ACECQA approved Child Protection certificate (CHCPRT001 or CHCPRT025) dated within the past two years or with a current refresher.
* National Child Safety Training.
* Contribution to work, health, and safety issues within the centre.
* Support and lead other staff.
* Dynamism and supportiveness in the early childhood team, meeting high-quality standards per the National Quality Framework.
