Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is seeking an Auxiliary Firefighter to join their team.
About Us
QFES is an emergency service agency responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland. We provide effective prevention, preparation, response, and recovery activities across a range of emergency situations.
QFES comprises the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service, and the State Emergency Service, and supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
Purpose of the Role
The Auxiliary Firefighter will respond to fire and other emergency incidents, promote community safety and emergency preparedness, and develop and maintain competencies through regular drills and training courses.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate will meet the following mandatory requirements:
* Employer's written consent to attend incidents and emergencies (where applicable)
* Live or work within a reasonable distance of the auxiliary fire station
* Australian Permanent Resident Status
In addition, the candidate will be expected to:
* Attend incident and emergency calls (50% of calls as a day worker or 30% of calls as a shift worker)
* Attend 75% of regular drill and training sessions
* Obtain an MRV licence within 12 months of employment
* Participate in ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programs
* Comply with QFES policies and procedures
Your Key Accountabilities
* Respond to fire and other emergency incidents as a member of a team
* Promote community safety and emergency preparedness through community education activities
* Develop and maintain competencies through regular drills and training courses
* Maintain required attendance standards for emergency incidents and training
* Operate specialist firefighting and rescue equipment safely and effectively
* Contribute to upkeep and hygiene of station facilities
* Ensure maintenance and repair of operational equipment and station facilities
* Contribute to incident reporting and general station administration
* Promote a positive team approach in all work activities
* Comply with legislative, policy, and procedural requirements
* Communicate effectively with QFES personnel, other emergency service providers, and the general community
* Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment
