School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship Engagement Officer

Location: Northern Beaches, NSW Department of Education

Contract: Temporary Full-Time until 31 December 2026

Hybrid Role: Flexibly work between schools.

Salary Package: $137,742 (includes salary of $110,266 - $122,058, employer superannuation and annual leave loading).

About the role

The Educational Pathways Program is an innovative, ministerial and executive priority program designed to improve access to career development programs, increase school‐based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBATs), and help students and young people explore vocational education and training (VET) pathways.

As a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship Engagement Officer (SBAT EO), you will act as a conduit between schools, students, parents, registered training organisations and employers, supporting the SBAT journey to enable completion of the HSC and an industry‐recognised VET qualification.

Strong knowledge of the Northern Beaches region and its environmental and business context is essential, as is collaboration with local services to create new opportunities.

Travel between schools and within the community is required. A current driver's licence and own vehicle are mandatory; work‐related kilometres will be reimbursed in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Key responsibilities

  • Support students throughout the SBAT journey, from initial engagement to successful completion of the HSC and a VET qualification.
  • Actively source and secure industry placement opportunities in partnership with employers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with schools, parents, training organisations and industry partners.
  • Plan and deliver engagement activities, events and information sessions for students and stakeholders.
  • Advise and mentor staff and students on career and vocational pathways.
  • Ensure alignment with the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and support the partnership agreement with the NSW AECG.

Qualifications and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in VET, apprenticeships, traineeships and/or work‐based youth programs.
  • Ability to work with industry to source employment opportunities.
  • Well‐developed communication, engagement, negotiation and planning skills.
  • Commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and the NSW AECG partnership agreement.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in education, business, youth work or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Working with Children Check for paid employment.
  • Current driver's licence and a personal vehicle.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
