The Role
An Administration Officer in the Emergency Department at Prince of Wales Hospital provides essential frontline administrative support across key areas including registrations, communications, and admissions, working flexibly across reception, the Bridge, and the Emergency Medical Unit. The role involves delivering efficient, patient-focused clerical services such as managing patient information, processing admissions, handling billing and payments, and maintaining accurate records within systems like IPM and EMR.
Administration Officers respond to enquiries in person and over the phone with professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality, while also guiding patients and families through public and private financial options. They contribute to smooth departmental operations by monitoring workflows, improving administrative processes, and ensuring the safe storage and handling of patient information.
Where You'll be Working
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. POWH provides an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes as a result of the provision of person-centred care.

Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
* Ability to perform a wide range of administrative tasks, monitoring and determining work priorities to fulfil workflow as required in a busy working environment
* High level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with a first class customer service approach
* Demonstrated commitment to providing a quality service and quality improvement initiatives in workplace practices and procedures
* Demonstrated ability in the use of IT hardware and software, including Microsoft office applications such as Word, Outlook as well as hospital systems including IPM, EMR
* Excellent organisational skills with capacity to work under pressure maintaining attention to detail and meet deadlines
* Willing to actively participate in education and training in order to provide high quality, professional and customer focused service
* Commitment to participate within a rotating 24 hour/ 7 day a week roster
