The Role
We are seeking a highly capable Automation Technical Specialist to support the Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC) within the Australian Defence environment. This hands‑on technical role focuses on developing advanced automation capabilities to streamline the build, configuration, and deployment of deployable ICT nodes supporting the Land Combat System Support Environment.
You will operate within a small, outcomes‑driven engineering team, contributing to the design, development, and sustainment of automation toolsets. You will also support the production of technical documentation, maintain components of the DevSecOps environment, liaise with Defence SMEs, and provide limited training to users. The role further contributes technical expertise to project planning, capability uplift activities, and configuration management across LNIC's Support Environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop automation toolsets to support build, configuration, and deployment of deployable ICT nodes
* Support LCSBL and Support Environments through scripting, automation, and orchestration (PowerShell, Ansible, GitLab, Kubernetes)
* Contribute to the design and implementation of disaster recovery solutions leveraging the VMware suite
* Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation for automation tools and system components
* Liaise with Defence technical SMEs, ADF personnel, APS representatives, and contractors to support integration activities
* Provide limited user training on DevSecOps and build automation environments
* Enforce configuration management processes and support technical risk management and planning
* Contribute engineering subject matter expertise to ongoing upgrade paths and capability expansion of the Support Environments
What You'll Need
* Significant experience with PowerShell, Ansible, and associated scripting/automation technologies
* Strong background in DevSecOps toolsets and methodologies, including GitLab CI/CD and containerisation/Kubernetes
* Proficiency across Microsoft and Linux operating systems and enterprise applications
* Solid experience with VMware datacentre products
* Experience with version‑controlled infrastructure deployments
* Experience automating patching, updates, and compliance checks
* Ability to work on‑site in Canberra
* Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills

at commencement, with the ability to upgrade to NV2 if required.
