TESS Search Partners has been exclusively engaged to appoint a Head of Finance for Comwire IT, a national IT services organisation, entering its next phase of growth. As a member of the executive leadership team reporting to the Directors, this role will play a critical part in strengthening the finance function while providing commercial insight across the business. The successful candidate will be operating across both strategic and operational finance, with a particular focus during the first six to twelve months on processes and team capability development.
The Role
As Head of Finance, you will take ownership of the finance function and provide financial leadership to the broader business.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading the organization’s finance function and supporting the executive team with financial insights
* Strengthening financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, reconciliations and internal controls
* Supporting and developing a small finance team including offshore support
* Ensuring the finance team manages day-to-day operations effectively
* Partnering with external accountants supporting ATO obligations and compliance
* Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes and systems
* Providing commercial support to leadership to assist decision-making and business performance
About You
The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting capability with a pragmatic and collaborative approach.
You will demonstrate:
* Strong experience across accounting, financial management and bookkeeping
* Experience operating within an SME or growing business environment
* Commercial awareness and the ability to support business leaders with financial modelling and insights
* A willingness to be hands‑on operationally when required
* A collaborative leadership style with a low ego and team‑oriented mindset
* CPA/CA qualification beneficial but not essential
* Strong reporting skills, using Excel & other suggested platforms – experience with BI platforms desirable, not mandatory
* Experience & knowledge working with CRM’s/Ticketing Systems & Accounting Software, ideally Xero
* Experience working with Banking and creditors to secure finance and funding as required
* Industry background that is transferable
* Experience with merges and acquisitions desirable, not mandatory
