Job Title: Vehicle Painter
Salary range: $76,600 - $87,000 + Superannuation – depending on skill level.
Job Closure date:30 days
About our client:
Our client is a premier name in the automotive repair industry, renowned for a commitment to excellence that spans over three decades.
Operating from a state-of-the-art, state-approved facility, they specialise in restoring vehicles to their pristine, pre-accident condition, with a particular expertise in comprehensive collision repair and high-quality refinishing.
They are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Vehicle Painter to join their dedicated team and uphold their reputation for flawless finishes.
About the Role:
This role is central to the final and most visible stage of the restoration process.
As a Vehicle Painter, you will be entrusted with transforming prepared vehicle bodies with a flawless, factory-quality finish.
You will be responsible for colour matching, application, and finishing, ensuring the final product not only meets but exceeds customer expectations.
This position requires an artist's eye for detail and a technician's understanding of modern refinishing systems.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation & Masking:
• Conduct meticulous final inspections of all prepared surfaces, including primers and fillers, to ensure a perfectly smooth and contaminant-free substrate ready for painting.
• Expertly mask all vehicle areas not requiring paint, including windows, trim, lights, and interior components, using specialised tapes and papers to ensure crisp, clean lines and complete protection.
Colour Matching & Tinting:
• Utilise advanced colour matching technology and proprietary software to analyse and replicate complex factory paint codes with absolute precision.
• Perform custom tinting and blending of paint colours to achieve a seamless, invisible repair that perfectly matches the vehicle's existing finish, even on challenging multi-coat and tri-coat colours.
Paint Application & Finishing:
• Operate state-of-the-art low-pressure high-volume (LVHP) spray equipment to apply base coats, clear coats, and primers with consistent, expert technique, avoiding runs, orange peel, or dry spots.
• Execute custom blending techniques on adjacent panels to ensure the repaired section is undetectable from the original factory paint, maintaining the vehicle's aesthetic integrity and value.
• Apply multiple clear coats to achieve the specified depth and gloss, ready for the final polishing stages.
Paint Curing & Final Detailing:
• Monitor and manage the paint curing process within temperature-controlled bake stations to ensure optimal hardness and durability of the finish.
• Perform final detailing by carefully wet sanding and machine polishing the entire painted surface to a showroom-quality, high-gloss finish, eliminating any minor imperfections.
Quality Assurance & Workshop Coordination:
• Conduct a rigorous final quality inspection of your work under various lighting conditions to ensure the finish meets the company's premium standards before the vehicle moves to reassembly.
• Work closely with Panel Beaters and management to ensure a smooth workflow, promptly communicating any issues that may affect the timeline or quality of the final product.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
• A formal trade qualification in Vehicle Painting / Spray Painting or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• A minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Vehicle Painter within a professional automotive refinishing environment.
• Extensive experience with modern water-based paint systems and the application processes for a wide range of basecoat/clearcoat products.
• A keen eye for colour and an exceptional level of attention to detail, with a passion for delivering a perfect finish every time.
• The ability to work efficiently both autonomously and as a collaborative member of a close-knit team.
• A strong understanding and commitment to adhering to Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) procedures, particularly regarding fume extraction and the handling of hazardous materials.
• A current driver's licence.
If you are a skilled Vehicle Painter who takes pride in producing exceptional work and wants to contribute to a business with an outstanding reputation, we encourage you to apply.
