Fixed term position of responsibility (1.0 FTE)
Permanent appointment as Teacher

**Tenure **3 years in normal circumstances

**Time Release**
0.2 FTE whilst undertaking the responsibilities of the
Curriculum Leader

**Employment Conditions**
Westminster School Inc. Teaching Staff and School Assistants
Enterprise Agreement 2021. Appropriate Band 2 Level
allowance and time release

**Key Relationships**

The Curriculum Leader is responsible to the Director of Learning,
works closely with other Curriculum Leaders and Heads of
Faculty, manages and leads the learning and teaching of students
and supports staff in their area. All staff are ultimately
responsible to the Principal.

**_Position Objective: _**
The position of Curriculum Leader is key in the leadership of the academic program of Westminster School.
Curriculum Leaders report directly to the Director of Learning and are responsible for all aspects of learning,
support the Director of Learning in her/his responsibilities of what students learn (curriculum), how they learn
(pedagogy) and for monitoring and improving student learning outcomes. Curriculum Leaders act as role
models and mentors to the members of their learning area team as well as perform line management
responsibilities.

**_Key Responsibilities: _**
**1. What students learn (Curriculum and course development)**

Ensure appropriate curriculum and course development across the learning area by:

- Supporting the Director of Learning with curriculum compliance, development, initiatives,

implementation, monitoring and review
- Overseeing planning, preparation and review of Years 7-12 courses of study, developing and

documenting programs which reflect the needs/abilities of students
- Ensuring compliance with Federal and State curricula from Foundation to Year 12
- Leading learning area staff to consider the big picture when planning for student learning
- Collaborating with fellow Curriculum Leaders and Preparatory School Deputies to ensure and

promote appropriate connectivity between programs
- Maintain up-to-date curriculum knowledge and contemporary practices in course development

**2. How students learn (Pedagogy)**

Lead learning area staff to develop and employ highly effective pedagogical practices by:

- Supporting and assisting the Director of Learning to catalyse and drive improvements in

pedagogical practice
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of research and development of best practice pedagogy which

emphasises collaboration, focus and reflection
- Ensure learning area staff use a range of differentiated teaching and learning activities
- Create opportunities for Digital Technologies and fully utilise the Learning Management System
- Lead and mentor the learning area staff to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching practice and
- Focus on developing student learning capabilities and dispositions alongside curriculum content

**3. Student learning outcomes**
Lead the learning area staff to assess, evaluate and improve student learning outcomes by:

- Supporting the Director of Learning to lead the development, implementation and continuous

improvement of high quality assessment processes, complying with School policies and SACE
requirements
- Accessing and provide rich data about student learning outcomes
- Monitoring academic progress across the student body within the learning area
- Using and distributing student performance data to drive improved learning outcomes
- Planning and executing innovative intervention strategies to engage and support students to

maximise learning outcomes
- Assisting students to achieve the best results possible by providing course counselling, establishing

learning area support programs and ensuring assignments and homework are of high quality with
consistent constructive feedback
- Overseeing learning area results and reports to ensure consistency, completeness and accurate

student information

**4. Leadership and administration**
Lead and manage learning area staff by:

- Create a work environment for learning area staff that facilitates high levels of engagement,

discretionary effort, collaborative teamwork and development
- Undertake line management responsibilities for staff within the learning area
- Monitor and develop individual staff performance and encourage reflective practices
- Advocate for the learning area
- Develop, maintain and regularly review a
