We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant – Special Needs for permanent and fixed‐term, full‐time and part‐time vacancies that may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Role
An Education Assistant – Special Needs primary role is to assist teachers with the preparation and delivery of resources and educational programmes in order to meet the learning needs of students with disabilities. The role involves encouraging these students to reach their Individual Education goals, providing effective feedback to the class teacher, participating in the evaluation of achievement of individual goals, and assisting with the general health and wellbeing of students. Efficiency in flexible work with students in individual, small‐group, and mainstream contexts, as well as experience with students with autism spectrum disorder, visual impairment, mental health and behavioural issues, is highly desirable.

Eligibility
* Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
* Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programmes, including special education and therapy programmes where these have been implemented.
* Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programmes to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
* Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programmes, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programmes.
* Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
* Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and wellbeing of students.
