About the role:
Reporting to the Building Coordinator and Senior Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for providing specialist technical information on building and related matters. Some of your duties will include:
* Assessing and processing building and demolition applications under the WA Building Act.
* Issuing permits and certificates in line with the Building Act 2011 and Building Regulations 2012.
* Conducting site inspections to ensure buildings meet approved plans and safety standards.
* Providing expert advice to builders, architects, engineers, and the public.
* Carrying out swimming pool pre-inspections and inspections.
* Investigating illegal or unsafe building activities and representing the City in legal matters when needed and support the Compliance team with legal matters as required.
* Delivering excellent customer service and contributing to the smooth running of the Building Services team.
What you'll bring to the role:
* Working knowledge of the National Construction Code of Australia and all relevant legislation.
* Well-developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
* Sound knowledge of the statutory and legal requirements of the position of Building Surveyor.
* Basic understanding of Town Planning procedures and Planning Scheme.
* Level 1 and 2 Building Surveyor's Certificate of Accreditation and Level 3 Technical Officer Certificate of Accreditation from LGIRS.
* Tertiary Qualification(s) within Building Surveying discipline.
Pre-employment Requirements:
* Current C Class Driver's Licence.
* National Police Clearance (less than six months old).
* Proof of right to work in Australia.
* Pre-employment medical (arranged and paid for by the City)
