About The Role
Reporting to the Coordinator Statutory Planning, this position forms part of the statutory planning team. The Senior Planning Officer will assist in the development and delivery of statutory planning services and respond to the current and future needs of both the organisation and the community. The successful candidate will be able to independently manage a number of planning applications, of varying types from pre‑application meeting through to determination in a fair timely manner.
Statutory Planning recognises new ways of working and the successful candidate can expect a flexible working environment. Statutory Planning is also cognisant of the fact commuting can often impact one's work‑life balance and this will be factored into discussions with the successful candidate when negotiating working arrangements.
This role is a fixed term position through to October 2026.
Key Selection Criteria
* Tertiary qualification in town planning or closely related discipline and several years' experience working in a statutory planning environment, preferably in the state or local government sector or alternate formal qualification and substantial experience in a town planning environment, preferably in the state or local government sector;
* Advanced understanding of the Victorian planning system, including the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and the Victoria Planning Provisions (VPPs);
* Understanding of heritage, urban design and environmental planning principles and their relationship to statutory planning processes;
* Experience in advocating at, or briefing representatives for, VCAT or similar legal forum;
* Developed written skills, particularly report writing and preparation of external correspondence;
* Demonstrated verbal communication skills, including the ability to mediate outcomes;
* Demonstrated ability to effectively manage own time and workload to ensure that the Statutory Planning team meets its Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
* Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing process improvement initiatives.
