Job Title: Medical Specimen Collector
Description
The role of a medical specimen collector involves interacting with patients, creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to them. The primary responsibility is to draw quality blood samples from patients and prepare those specimens for lab testing. This process requires attention to detail, skillfulness, safety, and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform daily activities accurately and on time under the direction of the area supervisor.
* Maintain a safe and professional environment at all times.
* Collect forensic and clinical specimens following established practices and procedures.
* Verify patient demographic information, initials, and signature after venipuncture to ensure correct labeling and tube verification.
* Keep accurate records and documentation as required by the organization.
* Demonstrate excellent organizational commitment and promote a positive image among patients, clients, employees, and the public in general.
Requirements:
* Ability to provide high-quality work in a fast-paced environment without errors.
* Work independently with minimal supervision in various settings, including doctor's offices or patient service centers.
* Excellence in phlebotomy skills, particularly pediatric and geriatric collections.
* Flexibility to accommodate staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
* Commitment to company policies and procedures, including dress code, employee health and safety, and guiding principles.
* Able to make informed decisions based on established procedures and use good judgment.
* Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record, if applicable.
* Willingness to travel and work flexible hours to cover multiple locations with minimal notice.
* Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively in a high-volume setting.
* Superior customer focus with open communication skills, ability to accelerate change, and knowledge of our business operations.
Education:
* High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
* Medical training, such as a medical assistant or paramedic program, is highly preferred.
* Phlebotomy certification is desirable, especially in California, Nevada, and Washington.
Experience:
* 1-3 years of experience in phlebotomy, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections, is necessary.
* Previous experience in a Patient Service Center environment is advantageous.
* Customer service background in retail or service-oriented industries is also beneficial.
* Basic keyboarding and data entry skills are required.
