CAPS Australia, a division of Ingersoll Rand, seeks an experienced Project Manager – Engineering who thrives in a hands‐on technical environment and enjoys working across multiple functions to deliver safe, high‐quality outcomes. This role is Melbourne based.
About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Projects Manager – Power Generation, you will manage engineering projects through their full lifecycle, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, on budget and to specification.
You will collaborate closely with Sales, Service, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, OEMs, suppliers and customers. The role also supports tender analysis, technical documentation, and design customisations for CAPS' power generation products.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead engineering projects from initiation to close‐out.
* Review scope, technical requirements, budgets and timelines.
* Ensure compliance with specifications, standards and customer expectations.
* Develop engineering designs with customers, consultants and subcontractors.
* Attend site as required to support project delivery.
* Track budgets, milestones and risks; provide weekly status reporting.
* Conduct project close‐out reviews and capture lessons learned.
* Manage meetings with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
* Review tenders and RFQs with Sales.
* Assess feasibility and interpret technical specifications.
* Liaise with Finance on commercial terms.
* Identify and document exceptions to protect both CAPS and customers.
* Select suitable equipment and customisations for site conditions.
* Prepare preliminary designs, cost estimates and technical responses.
* Deliver engineering design (electrical and/or mechanical) for customised solutions.
* Select components and equipment; generate drawings and documentation.
* Prepare quality plans, ITPs, commissioning procedures and schedules.
* Work with global Engineering Support Services for efficient document control.
* Collaborate with OEMs to ensure configuration accuracy and delivery requirements.
* Inspect, test and evaluate equipment, materials and workmanship.
* Ensure all outputs meet performance, quality and Australian standards.
* Work within CAPS' ISO 9001 and Promapp frameworks.
* Participate in audits and process improvements.

Skills & Experience
* Minimum 3 years' experience managing engineering projects—ideally in power generation or similar industrial equipment.
* Solid understanding of engineering design principles (electrical and/or mechanical).
* Ability to interpret technical specifications, standards and drawings.
* Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
* Excellent organisational and problem‐solving abilities.
