About the role

The Deputy Director of Legal Services (Commercial) is a senior leadership role responsible for delivering strategic legal advice and services to the University, with a particular emphasis on commercial matters such as contracts, research, and procurement. Reporting directly to the Director, Legal Services (Dispute Resolution), this position serves as the primary legal advisor in the Director’s absence and plays a pivotal role in guiding the University’s commercial activities.

As the Deputy Director, you will maintain a solicitor/client relationship with the University and its controlled entities, upholding all professional duties and ethical responsibilities. This role requires a collaborative, team-oriented approach, fostering strong relationships with both internal stakeholders and external partners to achieve the University’s goals. The University is committed to ensuring that the Deputy Director is never required to act in a manner contrary to their professional obligations. In the event of any conflict between your duties as a solicitor and your responsibilities as an employee or University member, your professional and ethical obligations as a solicitor will always take precedence.

To be successful in this role, you will be a dynamic legal professional with proven experience in strategic leadership and commercial contract management. Your expertise spans the full spectrum of legal operations, from developing and implementing contracting frameworks to providing high-level strategic advice on complex legal matters.
