Overview
The Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides public pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the Northern regions of Tasmania. NTPS aims to deliver high‐quality diagnostic services to general practitioners, medical specialists, and private hospitals, ensuring patients receive Medicare‐eligible tests without out‐of‐pocket expenses.
Responsibilities
* Support the Staff Specialist Microbiologist by providing clinical and diagnostic advice to the ID physician team within the Infectious Diseases Department at LGH.
* Cover leave periods for the Staff Specialist Microbiologist during periods of absence.
* Provide bench‐level management of the clinical microbiology service, including communication of critical microbiology results to treating teams.
* Interact regularly with the hospital's infectious diseases service and infection control unit.
* Deliver teaching and research activities as required.
* Maintain good understanding of laboratory safety protocols.
Qualifications
* Experience in management of the clinical microbiology service, including bench‐level advice.
* Experience in communication of critical microbiology results to treating teams.
* Prepared for regular interaction with the hospital's infectious diseases service and infection control unit.
* Teaching and research skills.
* Good understanding of laboratory safety.
Appointment Details
Fixed‐term part‐time, day worker (with on‐call) position, working up to 22.8 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 20 April 2027. Hours are negotiable with the successful applicant.
Salary
Salary range is consistent with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025. The position provides pro‐rata salary commensurate with the responsibilities and qualifications described above.
