**The Role**
The Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO) is seeking a geospatial manager with a qualification in a mapping science discipline or sound experience in nautical cartography or marine navigation to lead the Charting Quality Assurance section of the National Charting Directorate (NCD). The position will be responsible for leading a team of 3+ nautical cartographers to ensuring charting products meet national and international charting standards and follow internal procedures. The position is also responsible for ensuring the training and continuous technical and professional development of NCD's staff.

The team consists of civilian personnel supported by external contractors when required. The Charting Quality Assurance team is responsible for ensuring internal chart compilation processes are followed and that navigational products are reliable and fit for purpose. This includes the ability of productively engaging with a range of key national and international stakeholders in the maritime sector, attending technical meetings and allocating resources (internal and external) based on production priorities.

**About our Team**
The Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO) is the Department of Defence agency responsible for the publication and distribution of nautical charts and other information required for the safety of ships navigating in Australian waters. Within the National Charting Directorate, the Charting Quality Assurance Section is responsible for ensuring the official navigational products required by national and international commercial mariners to fulfill their chart carriage requirements as defined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention and the Australian Navigation Act 2012, are fit for purpose and meet international charting standards.

The person must provide strong leadership by providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioral standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and developing people, standards, and processes.

The person must be able to build and sustain effective relationships with stakeholders and posses sound knowledge of the commercial maritime sector as well as expertise in complex Geographic Information Systems and nautical cartography to provide advice and recommend use of appropriate techniques and methodologies to achieve outcomes.

Qualifications and experience in management, mapping science and/or marine navigation are preferred. A sound understanding of the roles and inter-dependencies of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) would be advantageous.
