Position Overview:

As our Compliance Manager, you will uphold and enhance compliance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), the Chain of Responsibility (CoR), all related legislation and company WHS and compliance policies and procedures, thereby safeguarding the company's operational integrity and reputation. You will also review, develop and implement WHS policy and procedures.

This role requires audits, educational programs, policy reviews and incident reporting in order to foster a culture of safety, compliance, continuous improvement and operational excellence at Metro Express.

Reporting directly to the Executive team, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining a safe work environment for staff, subcontractors, clients and other stakeholders alike.

About you:

- Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role with proven ability to manage a transport and logistics compliance function.

- Demonstrated experience in NHVR and WHS standards.

- Strong ability to gain buy in from teams and work alongside management to ensure compliance requirements are not only met but a culture of compliance is created.

- Good level of written, numeracy and literacy skills.

- Strong administrative skills including time management, coordination of tasks and efficient work practices.

- High attention to detail.

- Sound practical knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office, CRM and TMS software.

- Proven team management and leadership skills in a challenging environment; ability to promote team HSSE responsibility.

- Strong level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact and work with the Metro Express team and external parties.

- Proven ability to implement new work practices, systems and procedures.

- Ability to work unsupervised; accept responsibility and act on directives.

- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with sound technical competence.

- Self-motivated, highly efficient, proactive and skilled with a respect for confidentiality.

- Prepared to travel on a regular basis to our locations.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

- Actively engage with operations teams to ensure that subcontractors and internal staff rigorously adhere to the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and the Chain of Responsibility (CoR), alongside the company's own compliance policies and procedures.

- Develop audit plans and undertake and oversee the undertaking of regular subcontractor audits to ensure full and consistent compliance with relevant legislation, company policy and procedures, maintaining standards across Metro Express operations.

- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Work Health and Safety (WHS) plan that safeguards business operations, employees, and external stakeholders.

- Develop, deliver and manage the delivery of comprehensive toolbox presentations on safety and compliance, covering all relevant areas and ensuring staff and subcontractors are well-informed and equipped to perform their duties and are aware of their responsibilities under National Heavy Vehicle Law and Chain of Responsibility.

- Develop and regularly review the company's compliance related policies and procedures, ensuring that all operational guidelines are up-to-date, effective and fully aligned with current laws and industry standards.

- Assist with the training of staff and the implementation of the company's compliance policies and procedures.

- Ensure that all incidents are promptly reported, thoroughly documented, and rigorously investigated to identify root causes, implement corrective actions and prevent future occurrences.

- Continuously assess and refine compliance strategies to adapt to changing laws and market conditions.

- Compile and present detailed reports on compliance matters to senior management, highlighting any issues and recommendations to facilitate decision-making at the executive level.

- Support the Sales Team and State Managers providing input in the sales and account management processes around Compliance related policies and processes.

- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including clear and effective communication to ensure that all parties are aligned to maintain the highest standards of compliance and safety.

- Proactively follow up on any compliance issues identified within the organisation or by stakeholders; investigate the issues, coordinating with relevant parties and ensuring that appropriate corrective actions are taken for prompt and effective resolution.

- Stop work and report to management if a breach or potential breach of HVNL is identified or suspected to prevent non-compliance and ensure safety.

- Oversee audits and monitor required changes to ensure ongoing compliance with our current NHVR Maintenance accreditation.

- Assist with the training of staff and the implementation of the company's policies and procedures, including, developing training materials, conducting training sessions and ensuring that all employees understand and are capable of adhering to compliance standards and regulatory obligations.

- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and ethical standards in all business development activities.

- Ensure safekeeping of company assets including structures, equipment and inventory.

- Continuously assess and refine compliance strategies to adapt to changing laws and market conditions.

- Seek feedback from clients and stakeholders to improve service quality and address any concerns.

- Any other lawful and reasonable requests made within this position.
