Specialist Mechanical Craftsperson
Join our dynamic team as a Mechanical Craftsperson, where your core skills will shine in a role that involves complex and non-routine tasks. You'll have the opportunity to install, maintain, service, and repair a diverse range of estates services equipment, playing a vital role in our operations.
Your responsibilities will include calibration, fault finding, and repair across a wide spectrum of engineering plant and equipment, including medical gas systems, heating and ventilation systems, steam, and domestic water services—among other essential hospital plant and equipment.

Main Duties
To understand, diagnose and repair faults in mechanical engineering plant and equipment, to deal with new situations as they arise. Re‐assemble, erect and install new work.
To understand the workings of all non‐specialist and specialist mechanical systems in Addenbrooke's Hospital and associated properties. Competently deal with new or unusual complex situations as they arise.
Be able to work independently or as part of a team, to complete tasks within agreed timescales.
Be able to work autonomously across the trust sites, ensuring patient, public and staff safety is paramount.
Willing to participate in essential training required, to ensure the trust is compliant with statutory regulations, and to participate in personal development and ongoing learning.
Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Maintenance Manuals and Trust procedures. This includes the planning and organisation of complex activities such as shutdowns and interruptions to power supplies or service.
Consistently follow detailed engineering drawings and specifications. Must be able to use all relevant tools and equipment, including specialist testing instruments within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.

Qualifications
* BTEC HNC / HND / Approved Apprenticeship, City and Guilds or NVQ III Technicians Certificate or equivalent qualification in relevant topic
* Qualification and experience Control Systems or Mechanical / Motor Con BTec or City and Guilds in Medical Gas Pipeline and Vacuum Systems and BTec or City and Guilds in Decontamination Equipment and Sterilisation
Experience
* Able to make workload assessments and allocation
* Experience of working in an industrial environment
* Mechanical Services Systems Maintenance
* Comprehensive post apprenticeship experience in a Hospital maintenance environment
* Experience of working with Mechanical systems
* Able to evaluate and solve problems in situ
* Experience of working in Hospital Setting
* Working with natural gas systems
Knowledge
* Expertise and a full understanding of Mechanical Services and Electrical Control Systems
* Working knowledge of Hospital equipment
* Working knowledge of ventilation and cooling systems
* Working knowledge of steam systems
* Working knowledge of Building Management Systems
Skills
* Quality Mechanical work; fault finding, installation and maintenance
* Administration duties such as updating worksheets / job tickets, data input / completion of PPM worksheets
* Ability to communicate verbally, by phone and in writing to Senior Management and clinical users throughout the Trust
* Capable of standing in for Supervisor to prioritise work to the rest of the team and to issue job tickets when required Able to work as part of a team or in isolation
