About the role ...
We're looking to appoint a commercially astute, engaging and experienced Portfolio Lead who can turn strategy into outcomes.
You will be a vital part of the Data Platforms (DP) team and will service Westpac's Financial Crime & Credit Risk objectives by orchestrating complex delivery and proving value through measurable performance.
As a Portfolio Lead you will be accountable for aligning the DP portfolio strategic objectives.
You will be a sleeves-rolled-up operator with highly developed Agile/SAFe leadership credibility, portfolio governance depth, and hands-on delivery chops.
Your key responsibilities include:
Strategic Roadmap & Portfolio Governance: Translate Data Platforms strategy into an actionable roadmap, prioritising investments and outcomes aligned to LoB goals.
Own end-to-end portfolio planning, resourcing, timelines, and governance cadence.
Agile Delivery & Backlog Management: Drive PI planning, maintain Jira hygiene, and embed strong DoR/acceptance criteria.
Manage epics and backlog prioritisation while mentoring Service Owners for sprint excellence.
Delivery Enablement & Risk Management: Remove delivery obstacles, manage RAID items, align release schedules, and ensure compliance with enterprise risk standards to keep discovery and delivery flowing.
Stakeholder Engagement & Performance Insights: Build trusted relationships across business, tech, and vendors.
Provide executive-ready updates on status, risks, and financials, while defining and tracking OKRs/KPIs using dashboards for continuous improvement.
Financial & Workforce Stewardship: Own portfolio budget, forecasting, and investment efficacy.
Optimise resource allocation and partner with HR on sourcing, onboarding, and capability uplift.
What do I need?
Essential:
Financial Services domain experience with enabling data solutions for Risk Divisions (e.g. Financial Crime, Credit Risk, Non-Financial Risk) and has been within complex corporate environments.
10+ years in portfolio/program management for technology/data domains with natural influencing and negotiation skills.
Proven delivery leadership across complex, multi-team programs using Agile/SAFe (PI Planning, ART/Service Train).
Strong financial management (budgeting, forecasting; Clarity PPM or similar).
Expertise in portfolio/backlog management, prioritisation frameworks, and value realisation.
Advanced stakeholder influence and executive communication, with strong commercial acumen and presentation ability.
Tools: Jira (incl. hygiene/metrics like DeltaX), Confluence, Clarity PPM, and RAID tracking.
Desirable:
Data platforms know-how (cloud data platforms, data engineering concepts, metadata/governance).
Familiarity with CDAO frameworks and enterprise data strategy.
Certifications: SAFe (SPC, RTE, POPM), Agile (Scrum/Lean), Portfolio/Program (MoP, MSP, PMP).
